Every ‘Robiul Awal’ month, people all over the world celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad saw. In Indonesia, Maulid Nabi, the birthday of Muhammad saw is officially declared as a national holiday. The purpose of the holiday is to give a chance for Moslem to celebrate the day without going to school or office.
We celebrate ‘Maulid Nabi’ every year. We routinely do this ceremony, whether in mosques, schools, and offices. Celebration of this kind will not be meaningful if we assume ‘maulid nabi’ just event of ceremonial.
The core of the maulid nabi is not only excitement over his presence in history, but the more important of all is the continuing struggle his ideas. As his defense on the weak and destitute, the downtrodden exemptions, and enforcement of justice.
We made maulid nabi as the event of self inspection, not the event of entertainment. We introspection what is wrong with our attitude and behavior that does not comply with what has been taught the Prophet Muhammad. This is the true meaning of Maulid Prophet Muhammad.
Maulid Nabi brings us to look back again to the story in his successful propaganda in the middle of the desert. We find the supporting factors to be implemented in this modern era. Prophet Muhammad has been success in changing the culture of Arab brotherhood that is built on the principles of racial brotherhood into be built on faith.
Since that time, Islam became a religion who is welcomed by people all around the world. Even after his death, Muslims successfully overcome two kingdoms and become the ruler of the world and a forerunner of science.
Let's make Rabiul Awal and Maulid Nabi as a means to inculcate the high quality personality of Prophet Muhammad in ourselves.
